Our Story: Building InteriorFolio

If you’re reading this, you’ve found our very first blog post, which feels like the perfect place to say hello and introduce ourselves.

InteriorFolio is a woman-owned business, built by a team with backgrounds in accounting, merchandising, and marketing. While stepping into the software development world is a fun new adventure for us, the idea behind InteriorFolio has been a long time coming.

How We Found Our Way Here

Years ago, we found our niche working with interior designers. As word of mouth grew, and we attended design events like High Point, we started really immersing ourselves in the design world and the home industry.

As we worked with more and more firms, we began noticing patterns. The same questions. The same frustrations. The same “there has to be a better way”, and “which software should we choose” conversations.

The Lightbulb Moments

Designers rely heavily on job costing to understand project profitability, yet many tools don’t handle the accounting portion in a way that reflects true profitability. Project management tools don’t always talk nicely to accounting software, and some platforms try to do everything, but end up feeling a bit overwhelming, especially for small to mid-sized firms.

What designers kept telling us wasn’t “give us more features.”

It was:

“Make it make sense.”

“Make it easy.”

“Make it work.”

The Dream That Kept Popping Back Up

For years, we’ve talked about building our own software. It was always in the back of our minds, but we were busy doing the hands-on work: fixing issues, creating workarounds and accounting policies that worked with other software, and helping designers make sense of their numbers.

Then in 2025, we finally decided…why not now?

We’re accountants.

We understand interior design software.

We have a deep understanding of the interior design community.

We’ve met and worked with so many industry thought-leaders.

And we truly LOVE this industry.

Creating something that could add real value just felt like a natural next step. So, we took the plunge!

A New Adventure

Getting into software development has been an exciting challenge. And honestly, it’s been fun. InteriorFolio is being built with designers in mind. We’re listening, we’re testing, and we’re improving as we go.

Because InteriorFolio isn’t meant to just be an interior design software, we’re a partner.

This blog is part of that same mission. We’re here to be a resource. To share insights, answer questions, talk through challenges, and support the business side of interior design in a way that feels approachable.
